Hi Folks,
I think Harwich Sea Shanty festival was my own personal singing highlight of the year. It was our last festival of the season and as we’d never been before, we didn’t quite know what to expect.
For the most part the festival takes place in wonderful real ale pubs, on boats and smaller intimate venues. Imagine our surprise when we were asked to come into St Nicholas’ Church which seats 1500 people on several tiers. We weren’t really expecting to sing, merely just to listen to the other fabulous acts (I mentioned Brasy from Poland before – they have beautiful voices).
We had to drive the 4 hours back to Bristol and were under time pressure so when the organisers called us out on stage immediately – it caught us a little by surprise even though it shouldn’t have done.
Mostly Festivals are about us giving to people (and a great and fond pleasure it is to do so) but sometimes you have to take something back. We sang South Australia and really roared it out in true Trowmen fashion – The response from the audience however was outstanding – I’ve never had tears in my eyes like it before but I did on Sunday – it was truly overpowering.
So I’m just going to take a minute or two this week to bask in that moment…again…
Info about the Autumn Singaround very soon.
Cheers for now
