Hi Folks, As the hot weather fades and a coolness fills the air, we thought it was high time you good people had a quick update!
The RT have been having a ball over the summer at high flying festivals such as Glastonbury, Priddy, Folkeast and Shrewsbury.
Here's a little link to what we've been up to:
As the night's lengthen here's the low down on where you can catch us over the next few months:
Sunday 18th September - Priston Folk Festival, Priston…
The Roaring Trowmen' are four hearty men from Bristol who sing sea shanties and songs of the salty deep with passion, power, humour and glorious harmonies.
Priston Folk Festival
This lovely little festival, in a small village just South West of Bath, is the epitome of what a folk festival should be. Yet despite it's size there are some well know names there. Come join us on Sunday afternoon, on the stage and in the pub!
Shrewsbury Folk Festival
After our hard work last years as newbies (during which we had a LOT of fun too!) we appear to have impressed and have been invited back again in 2016. WHOOP!!
Our first appearance at this quirky, charming festival in Suffolk. Plenty of workshops, Ceilidhs, sideshows, cinema, local foods and ales and all round joie de vivre to keep you going for the whole weekend.
Kingsdown Wine Vaults
£Free (Arrive early to guarantee entry!) 8.30pm
We return again to our beloved Vaults - we'll be raising the roof once more with our customary blend of sea shanties, nautical ballads, and cheesey jokes.
3 Bucket Jones - Sing for Water
3 Bucket Jones are an experienced songwriting collective led by Gitika Partington and Andy McCrorie-Shand. Their songs are acoustic, folktronica, alternative-pop. This gig will be a family affair. 'The Roaring Trowmen' includes Gitika’s brother Dave, and their mother Mani sings with 'The Barley Mow Choir'. Players from the world-class Tredegar Town Band & some outstanding local singers including Ali Orbaum and Wendy Sergeant who are involved in the 'Sing for Water West' project will also be performing. All profits from this ‘TAKE THESE GHOSTS’ 2nd album tour will be going to Water Aid.
Priddy Folk Festival
This year’s festival is their 25th anniversary, so expect something special! The Trowmen will be performing formally on Saturday and Sunday, and informally wherever there is beer being sold :-).
Private booking - Wedding
SS Great Britain, Bristol
We're delighted to have been invited back to Glastonbury for our second year! We'll be performing as before on the Croissant Neuf Bandstand. We will be singing two sets, one on Friday 3.30 - 4.00pm, and one on Saturday 6.30 - 7.00pm. If you're lucky enough to have a ticket, do come along to see us!!
Petherton Folk Fest
FREE one day event, in the beautiful village of South Petherton, Somerset. Now in its 4th year it will offer a full day of entertainment for the whole family.
Teignmouth Folk Festival
Weekend festival in one of Devon's oldest seaside resorts. The Trowmen will perform on the Sunday (19th June), time TBD.
Queen's 90th birthday party
With a return to the North Devon coast, the Trowmen are delighted to be invited to celebrate the queen's 90th birthday at this delightful hotel, right in the centre of Lynmouth next to the harbour, a perfect setting for our nautical output. We hope to be joined by our North Devon fans, royalists and salty dogs all!
Wimborne Minster Folk Festival
Roll up, roll up for a fun-filled, music-packed weekend of folk, family & fun on 10, 11, 12 June 2016 around the town of Wimborne Minster, Dorset. The Trowmen will share a gig with the 'Wareham Whalers' from 3.00 to 5.00pm on the Saturday 11th June.
A Storm in a Teacup
A joint gig with our great friends from the North East, 'The Teacups'. We've met them at a few folk festivals and admired their voices, their arrangements and their great humour! Come enjoy an eclectic mixture of a cappella musicality in our collective company at the very cozy SouthBank venue.
'the Roaring Trowmen' plus 'The Magnificent AK47'
We hope that the nautical noodlings of 'the Roaring Trowmen' will blend seamlessly with the deep, Georgian-inspired harmonies and serious silliness of 'The Magnificent AK47'. If not, there will be some serious sonic strife! Both groups share an intense appreciation of all things blokey, generally lower frequencies and the occasional half of shandy. One of those is a lie......... See further details on the Bristol Folk House website www.folkhousemusic.com or on Skiddle.
Upton-upon-Severn Folk Festival
The 2016 festival will feature the usual range of great performers - regulars, old favourites and new guests, i.e. the Trowmen! There will be sessions in pubs, dancing in the streets and good company and fellowship throughout the town. More details at http://www.uptonfolk.org/index.html
Return to Pebbles Tavern, Watchet
Free event. We return to a very cozy and welcoming venue that we performed at on our 'Firesides Tour' in 2014. Seating is limited, so get there early!
Ellesmere Port Sea Shanty Festival
Fantastic and varied line-up. Over 36 different shanty groups performing over the Easter weekend. Tickets required for evening concerts only, see link. Festival organised by 'Shanty UK' www.shanty.org.uk
Tillier's Regiment of the Sealed Knot banquet
the Roaring Trowmen @ KWVs
Yet another FREE gig! (Our generosity knows no bounds..... ) A regular spot at our spiritual home. By then we should have added some new songs over the winter break, hopefully!
